The Vermont Wildflower Farm is the largest wildflower seed center in the Northeast. Their retail location and public gardens are just down the road from Shelburne Farms, and we stopped by after our tour of the Children’s Farmyard.
Vermont Wildflower Farm has refined their custom seed mixes over the 30 years they’ve been in business, and they also sell several bulbs, native woodland plants, and alternative grass seed varieties. I would love to plant their cool tones wildflower mix someday.
Their retail location includes gardens and woodlands that are open to the public from May to mid-September, and you can walk the paths and learn about the flowers found in these different habitats as well as see poisonous, native, and edible species depending on the season of your visit.
Unfortunately we arrived right before they closed for the day, but I can wait to go back and explore more of the property and peruse their seed selection. Fortunately, the Vermont Cookie Love factory was right down the road, and we were able to console ourselves with chocolate dipped cookie dough balls.
Check out other great place to explore in Vermont!

Want to plant seeds on a bank that has been lawn. Covered with black plastic in the fall now we would like to seed it to wildflowers in the spring, hopefully perennials.
Advise please,
Stuart
Hi Stuart, that sounds wonderful! I haven’t actually done this myself yet, but I found some resources that could be helpful and will link them below. Good luck and enjoy the beautiful new view this summer!
