At this year’s Rhode Island Agriculture Day (held on April 25th), the Department of Agriculture launched a new website with the goal of increasing awareness and sales of local seafood. The website is the newest initiative undertaken by the RI Seafood Marketing Collaborative, which was established in 2011 by the RI General Assembly. It has several engaging features, including maps of local seafood purveyors, videos of different fishing trips, and a harvest calendar. Like vegetables, seafood can be seasonal in our area and by eating the species when they are most abundant, you can be sure you are getting the freshest fish and helping the state to rely less on imported seafood.
As the RI Seafood Marketing Collaborative will be administered by Farm Fresh RI, I have no doubt they will do a wonderful job of spreading the word about our abundant local seafood choices.
Is the Ocean State Seafood Harvest Calendar drawing displayed on the home page available for purchase?
Hello! I am so sorry for the delay, but I don’t know if you can purchase the seafood harvest calendar. However! I’ve been at several events where they give them away for free. I bet you could contact the seafood marketing collaborative and they would send you one or tell you where to pick it up! http://www.dem.ri.gov/riseafood/contact.php It’s pretty cool isn’t it? Thanks again for your comment!
