Roger Williams Botanical CenterEven though we all know Summer is on its way, there are some weeks in April that can tease us New Englanders. We may get one beautiful day in the 60’s followed by a week in the 40’s. It was one of those weeks that I decided I just needed a little bit more warmth and sunshine to get me through this fickle Spring. The Roger Williams Botanical Center is a good place to go to keep the dream of Summer alive.  Just a few minutes outside of the city, this beautiful botanical garden is located within the sprawling Roger Williams Park (also home to a zoo, natural history museum, boating center, and several other fabulous buildings).

The Botanical Center includes two greenhouses: The Conservatory and the Mediterranean Room. There are over 150 different species and cultivars of plants including 17 different types of palms.  Outside of the greenhouses are paths that wind through perennial gardens, a pine and hosta dell, and a rose maze. The Botanical Center has an agreement with the University of Rhode Island and hosts a variety of educational programs and events.
