Happy Friday Everyone!

A friend of mine recently introduced me to Tiny Atlas Quarterly, an online  magazine focused on travel. They currently have a Kickstarter campaign going to raise money for production of their next edition.

I absolutely loved how this article on collecting abalone in Jenner, California was produced. The photography, writing, and graphic design is just awesome, and is put together in such a way that you feel like you’re really there.  Visual storytelling at its best!

I once spent a semester at the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies on Catalina Island (Oh how I miss that wild and beautiful island!) We were discussing abalone conservation issues with a researcher and he told us a crazy story. He was once concentrating so hard on finding and counting abalone (they blend in really well with rocks), he didn’t even notice a WHALE swim over him! His dive partner told him afterwards.

Certain abalone species are endangered so make sure you inquire about their origins before you pick up abalone shells at a shell shop, or purchase abalone jewelry.

I hope you have an amazing weekend!
